Surfing through the internet, on the mypyramid.gov website I learned a few things that may be helpful for everyone to know for our own health. One should eat about 2000 calories a day, but this number may vary depending on your calories needs. There are two food groups that are known as "essentials" and "extras." Essentials are the food that contains the calories your body needs and extras are the calories you consume after consuming sufficient nutrients. In a typical day I eat about 2000-2500 calories and according to the guidelines recommended on mypyramid I do not meet the guidelines as I am supposed to. To conclude, from the knowledge I've gotten about nutrition I've come to the conclusion that I eat too much of the extras food group when I do so, but due to a fast metabolism I don't gain weight at a fast rate.

Sugar Reflection
One of the lessons discussed in class, was about sugar. The activity of measuring the amount of added sugar in different types of drinks was quite surprising. I learned that it is important to read the ingredients label and be aware of how much sugar we eating daily, because in excess of it can lead to gaining weight. Now I am more likely to read nutrition facts labels and look for sugar content.
Nutrition Changes
What changes did you make in your eating habits based on what was learned in class?
-Based on what was learned in class, I tried to change my eating habits by eating healthier foods such as vegetables, fruits, etc. trying to eat foods/products that are low in trans fat, and also replacing sodas with 100% natural juices.
Was there anything you were more aware or conscious of after class?
-Yes, now I am more aware of trans fat in food and the amount of calories I consume daily.
Do you feel you made healthier choices or changes that allow you to have a more nutritionally balanced diet? Why/why not?
-Yes, I definitely made changes to have a more balanced diet because I've become aware of what can bad eating habits cause in your health. Having a nutritionally balanced diet will also help you keep your body in a good shape.
Do you have a better understanding about how to read a food label?
-Yes, now I actually know how to read food labels as to how many calories are in certain products, fats, percentage of vitamins etc.
